Working on a Floor You Also Have to Walk On
In a one-car garage the floor is the workbench and the walkway at once. An air line and a tray of solvent are the two things that make it unusable.

In a one-car garage the floor is the workbench, the parts store and the only route to the door.
That is the constraint everything here follows from. A workshop with space has a bench for the work and a floor for walking. A single garage with a car in it has one surface doing both jobs, and the things that ruin it are not the big tools — they are the two that spread out sideways.
An air line is one. A tray of solvent is the other. Both are manageable, and both are usually managed badly because the obvious approach is to put them down and deal with it later.

The problem, as it appears
The car is in, so there is a corridor of about two feet down one side. Somewhere in that corridor is an air hose that has been trodden on for an hour, and a tray of dirty solvent that cannot be moved without using both hands and cannot be left where it is.
Everything takes twice as long because each task begins by moving the last one out of the way.
Why the obvious answer disappoints
"Tidy as you go" assumes somewhere to tidy to. In a garage with a car in it there frequently is not, and advice that starts from a two-bay workshop does not transfer.
And a hose is not an extension lead. People treat them as the same category and they behave differently: air hose is stiffer, holds the coil it was stored in, and does not lie flat. A lead can be kicked to the side and stays there. A hose springs back into the walkway.
The workable answer for both is the same shape: get them off the floor by default rather than by discipline.

What actually matters
1. The hose belongs overhead, not along the floor
The length of hose actually on the ground is what matters, and mounting position decides it. High on the wall near the compressor, or on the ceiling, so the run goes up and across and comes down at the work — rather than along the full length of the floor.
A hook does this and costs almost nothing, and it depends on you coiling the hose every time. A reel is worth the difference where the hose goes out and back several times in a session, because the version that gets put away is the one that takes no effort to put away.
Two things worth checking. Controlled retract rather than a free spring: a hose end travelling back to a reel unguided is a genuine hazard at head height, and guiding it back is the habit to build. And mount into something structural — a reel plus hose is heavier than it looks, and it is being pulled sideways every time it is used.

Mount high and near the compressor so the run is overhead rather than along the floor, and fix into something structural — the sideways pull is the load that matters. Prefer a controlled retract over a free spring, and guide the end back rather than releasing it.

2. Solvent, contained in something with a bottom
The failure here is doing the job over a rag or an old baking tray, where the solvent goes where it likes and the part is cleaned into the floor.
A tray with real depth and a drain point keeps the whole operation in one defined place, which in a narrow space is the difference between a job and a spill. It also means the used solvent stays collectable, which matters for the last section below.
Sit it on the bench rather than the floor if there is any bench at all. A tray at floor level in a corridor is the thing that gets kicked.

Depth and a drain point are what make it containment rather than a wide dish. Check the manufacturer's stated solvent compatibility before filling it — that is a materials question, not a preference.

The mistake to avoid
Leaving used solvent in the tray between sessions. It evaporates into a space you work in, it stays flammable, and it makes the tray something you have to carefully move rather than pick up.
Disposal is the part with consequences past your own garage: through a facility that accepts it, never into a drain, onto the ground, or in household waste. Ventilation while working and correct disposal afterwards are the two non-negotiable parts of this, and both are governed by the product's guidance rather than by anything a general guide should specify.
The smaller mistake is buying a reel and mounting it where the hose still crosses the walkway. The reel is not the fix — the mounting position is, and a reel mounted low at the far end of the garage puts exactly as much hose on the floor as a hook would have.
