The problem, as it appears

A phone, a headset, a controller or two, a handheld, and a power bank. Each arrived with its own charger and its own cable, and all of them live on the desk because that is where the sockets ended up.

The surface fills, the cables tangle, and nothing is ever charged when wanted because plugging in is a separate decision each time.

Why more sockets disappoint

Adding an extension lead solves the socket shortage and makes the cable situation worse — more power bricks, each with its own lead, all on the desk. The count of objects goes up.

The other reason is behavioural, and it is the same one from keeping controllers charged: things get charged when charging is where they are put, not when a cable is available. Sockets do not create that; a designated place does.

What actually matters

Output per port with everything connected. Multi-port chargers share a total budget. A unit advertising a high figure may deliver a fraction of it per port once four devices are attached, and that is the number that determines whether your handheld actually charges.

The mistake to avoid

Buying on the headline wattage. A station stating a large total across six ports may allocate very little to each when all are in use, and the device that suffers is the one that needed the most — usually the handheld. Look for per-port figures in a table rather than a single total on the packaging, and if the specification only offers a total, assume it divides.

The second mistake is putting the station somewhere that requires crouching. An under-desk position is correct for devices that get docked and wrong for anything checked frequently, and the failure mode is the same as every other storage decision on this site: out of easy reach means back on the desk within a week.
