One removes the dust and the other holds it until it cannot.
A crevice attachment extracts — the dust leaves the room. A microfibre wand captures onto a sleeve and keeps capturing only while that sleeve has capacity; past that, it starts putting dust back.
So the question is whether the gap has an exit for airflow. Behind a radiator or under a low appliance there is nowhere for a vacuum to pull from, and that is precisely where the wand earns its place.

The limitation is the machine behind it
Narrowing the opening raises air speed and drops volume, and every extra centimetre of tube adds resistance. On a vacuum that was already weak, a long crevice tool reaches further and lifts less — which is why people conclude the attachment is useless when the machine is the constraint.

Its honest limit
It is capture with a capacity. Once the sleeve is loaded, each pass leaves as much as it takes, and because the dust is fine and the gap is dark, nothing about that is visible while it happens.
Where the cheaper option is genuinely enough
A damp microfibre cloth. For any surface you can reach, damp beats both. Dry dusting lofts fine particles into the air and they resettle within hours; damp traps them.

Who should pick which

The mistake to avoid
Continuing with a saturated wand. It looks identical to a clean one and behaves like the opposite. If the sleeve has not been washed this year, the wand has been redistributing rather than collecting for most of that time.
The second mistake is buying a longer crevice tool to fix weak suction. Length is the thing making the suction weak. If the machine is marginal, the fix is a shorter tool and a closer approach — or a different tool entirely.
