This is the benchmark in its category and it deserves to be. It also has a specification that disqualifies a large number of the monitors people try to put on it, and that specification is the minimum weight rather than the maximum.

The problem it addresses
Monitor stands are designed to look good in a photograph and to ship flat. Height adjustment, where it exists at all, tends to be a few inches, and the resulting screen position is set by the manufacturer's shipping constraints rather than by where your eyes are.
The usual consequence is a screen a little too low, looked at for eight hours a day with the neck slightly flexed. An arm removes the constraint entirely: thirteen inches of vertical travel puts the screen anywhere between desk level and standing height, and it frees the desk area the stand's foot was occupying. Whether that is worth the money is argued in is a monitor arm worth it.

What it gets right
Thirteen inches of lift and 25.6 inches of extension is a genuinely large working envelope — enough to pull a screen forward for reading and push it back for gaming, and enough to raise it for a standing session on a desk that raises with it.
The counterbalance mechanism holds position rather than drifting, which is the single functional difference between an arm that gets used and one whose adjustment you stop touching after a month. Both clamp and grommet mounts are in the box rather than sold separately, and both 75 and 100 mm VESA patterns are supported without an adapter.
Ten years of warranty on a mechanism whose failure mode is gradual is the most informative specification on the sheet. Spring creep is what kills cheap arms, it takes eighteen months to show up, and a decade of cover is a manufacturer stating what it expects.

Ugly score 3, and here that is not the criticism
Most of this site's low ugly scores are a warning that a product is being sold on appearance. This one is not. The LX is a plain aluminium arm with visible joints and a black or polished finish, and it looks like what it is: a piece of mechanical hardware sized for its load.
What it does have in common with the decorative stuff is the price, and that is the honest objection to it. Nobody should pretend the premium buys nothing — it buys a spring that still holds in year five — but it is a durability premium, not a performance one, and a reader who replaces their setup every three years is buying something they will not be around to collect on.
Where it stops being the right tool
The minimum weight, which catches people out
A gas spring counterbalances a load, and below the bottom of its range the spring wins. On the LX that floor is 7 lb, measured with the stand removed — which is how a monitor arrives at an arm, and which is several pounds lighter than the number on the box. A light 24-inch office panel is a genuine risk of falling under it, and the symptom is a screen that creeps upward and will not stay low.
The ceilings are diagonal as well as mass
Twenty-five pounds and 34 inches. The diagonal limit is about leverage: a wide panel twists the joint in a way a compact heavy one does not, so a 38-inch ultrawide under the weight limit is still outside the specification.
The desk has to accept it
A clamp needs an accessible rear edge of a compatible thickness; a grommet needs a hole. Desks with a boxed-in rear rail, a very thick top, or a wall-flush installation offer neither, and no arm solves that — a shelf does, and that trade is in monitor shelves and what they hold.

Who should buy it, and who should not
Buy it if the monitor is in the middle of the range — roughly 24 to 32 inches, comfortably over 7 lb — the desk takes a clamp, and you expect to keep the setup for years. That is the case where the durability premium is actually collected rather than merely paid.
Skip it if the complaint is only that the screen is too low, because a riser fixes height for almost nothing and takes no desk depth from the keyboard. And work through the rest of the setup first: the order to fix things in is in fixing desk posture in the right order.
Would we buy it again?
Yes, for a screen that clears the weight floor and a setup meant to last. It is the one product in this batch where the expensive option is defensible on evidence rather than on feel, and the evidence is the length of the warranty.
