Keyboard Rattle and Stabilisers
One key sounds wrong and it is always the long ones. What the rattle actually is, the free fix that works most of the time, and when to stop.

It is always the long keys, and it is not a fault. Space bar, enter, shift and backspace have a stabiliser — a wire and two housings holding a wide keycap level so it does not tilt when you hit the corner. The rattle is that wire moving.
Try the free fix first: pull the keycap and reseat the wire. A good share of stabiliser rattle is a wire that was never fully clipped in at the factory, and it costs nothing to check.

The problem, as it appears
Most keys sound tight and consistent. The space bar sounds like something loose. Hitting enter off to one side produces a click that the same key does not make in the middle.
Because everything else sounds fine, it reads as a defect in one key — and returning the board usually produces another one that does the same thing.
Why the obvious fix disappoints
The obvious fix is a replacement keyboard, and it disappoints because stabiliser rattle is a tolerance outcome rather than a fault. The wire has to be loose enough to move freely and tight enough not to rattle, and mass production lands somewhere in that range.
The second obvious fix is spraying something into it. That disappoints differently: thin lubricants migrate into the switch itself, where they make the key mushy or inconsistent, and aerosols carry propellant that can attack plastics. Stabilisers want a thick grease, applied in specific places, and nothing else.

What actually matters
1. Reseating, before anything is bought
Pull the keycap with a puller — fingers work and twist the stem, which is how switches get damaged.
Look at the wire. It should be fully clipped into both housings and sitting down in its slots. Push it home, refit, and try again.
This alone fixes a meaningful proportion of rattling boards.

2. Where the grease goes
Two places, and only two: the ends of the wire where it pivots in the housings, and the contact faces inside the housing where the wire rests.
Not on the switch. Not on the stem. A thick, tacky grease stays put; a thin oil finds its way into the switch and ruins the feel.

3. The soft landing underneath
The sharp part of the sound is the wire striking the PCB. A small piece of soft material under the housing removes it — the modification everyone calls the band-aid mod, because that is traditionally what is used.
Free, reversible, and it changes the character more than its cost suggests.
4. Knowing when to stop
There is a point where a board sounds good and further work is chasing a preference rather than fixing a problem. Rattle removed and a uniform sound across the long keys is the goal; a specific acoustic signature is a hobby.
The options, and who each suits
Reseat only for a board that rattles on one key. Free and frequently sufficient.
Reseat and lubricate for a board that rattles across all the long keys. This is the standard job and the one people mean by "modding" a keyboard.
Add the soft landing if there is a sharp click under the thunk after lubricating.
Replace the stabilisers if a housing is cracked or a wire is bent. Genuinely faulty parts are worth replacing and they are cheap; check whether yours are plate-mounted or screw-in before ordering.
Change nothing if the complaint is volume rather than character. That is a different problem — switch choice and what the board sits on.

The mistake to avoid
Using a thin lubricant because it is what was to hand. It works for an afternoon, then wicks into the switch, and a mushy inconsistent key is a worse problem than the rattle — and a harder one to undo.
The second mistake is doing this while the board is dirty. Grease over grit makes an abrasive paste in exactly the moving contact you were trying to smooth. If it is due a clean, that comes first — cleaning a mechanical keyboard.
And if the actual complaint is that other people can hear it on calls, the fix is somewhere else entirely: stopping keyboard noise reaching your mic.
