Charging a Handheld Gaming PC Properly

The charger has to supply more than the game draws, or the battery falls while the device is plugged in. That is the whole issue, and it is why a phone charger that appears to work is quietly inadequate — it charges fine at the menu and loses ground the moment anything demanding loads.

The problem, as it appears
A handheld plugged in during a session and still losing charge. Or one that charges overnight from a phone charger perfectly well, and then fails to hold its level during an evening.
It reads as a fault and it is not. The device is drawing what the game demands, the charger is supplying what it can, and the battery is covering the difference. Everything is behaving as specified.
Why the bundled charger disappoints
Sometimes it does not — manufacturers who ship an adequate charger have solved this for you. Where it disappoints is the very common case of the charger being sized for charging rather than for charging while playing, which are different loads.
The second disappointment is cables. A charger capable of high output connected through a cable that cannot carry the current delivers what the cable allows. What actually matters
Headroom over the device's peak draw. Enough that the charger is never the limit while gaming. A charger with capacity to spare costs little more than one sized exactly, and removes the whole question.
That the cable is rated for it. The charger cannot deliver through a cable that will not carry it, and this is where most disappointing results actually originate.
The physical angle at the port. A cable emerging straight out of the bottom or top of a handheld sits exactly where a hand goes, and gets levered every time the device is repositioned. That force goes into the port, which is a soldered connector on a board.
Weight hanging off the connector. A power bank on the end of a cable is a mass swinging on a port. This is the single most avoidable way to damage a handheld.

The mistake to avoid
Sizing the charger for charging rather than for charging under load. The two figures are different and only the second matters if you intend to play while plugged in. If the battery percentage falls during a session, the charger is the answer regardless of how well it charges overnight.
The second mistake is leaving a power bank dangling. It is the arrangement everyone tries first, it puts continuous leverage on a soldered connector, and the resulting port damage is a repair rather than a replacement cable. Strap it to the device or put it in a pocket with slack in the cable — but do not let it hang.
