Find an Electrical Short Without Pulling Every Fuse
Swapping the blown fuse for a breaker and tracing the field it makes turns a wiring short from a teardown job into something you follow along the loom.

A fuse that blows the moment you replace it means a short somewhere in the loom, and the traditional method — disconnect things one at a time until it stops — can take an afternoon and still leave you guessing which stretch of wire is actually damaged.

The problem, as it appears
A fuse that keeps blowing, or a battery that keeps going flat, and a fuse box with thirty circuits in it.
The default approach is to pull fuses one at a time until something changes. On a modern car that means disturbing thirty circuits to find one fault, and re-seating several of them badly on the way past.
Why the obvious approach is so slow
Pulling fuses tells you which circuit is faulted. It does not tell you where on that circuit the fault is, and a single circuit can run the length of the car through several connectors and a couple of looms. Knowing "it is the one feeding the rear lights" narrows it to several metres of wire behind trim panels.
The genuinely bad version of this is fitting a larger fuse so it survives long enough for you to test with. That works in the sense that the circuit stays live, and it removes the exact protection that is currently stopping a shorted wire from getting hot enough to melt insulation or start a fire. The fuse rating is not a suggestion.
Following the current instead of hunting for it
Any wire carrying current has a magnetic field around it. A short-circuit tracer uses that: a transmitter sits in the blown fuse's place and pulses current into the circuit, and a receiver picks up the pulsing field through trim, tape and loom wrap.
You sweep the receiver along the wire's route and it keeps signalling — until it stops. Where the signal stops is where the current is going to ground instead of continuing, which is the short.

What actually matters
Know the route before you sweep. The receiver follows a field, not a wiring diagram. If you do not roughly know where the loom runs, you can sweep past the fault entirely and conclude the tool does not work. A few minutes with a diagram first saves more than it costs.
Sweep slowly, and along the wire rather than across it. The field is strongest directly over the conductor and falls away quickly. Moving fast, or holding the receiver at an angle across the loom, is the usual reason a trace seems to give nothing.
Expect the fault to be somewhere that moves or rubs. Shorts do not appear in the middle of an undisturbed loom. They appear where a wire passes through a bulkhead, crosses a sharp edge, runs into a door hinge, or has been disturbed by previous work.

Still the tool that confirms the fault before and after — a resistance check to ground tells you the short is gone once you have repaired it.

The mistake to avoid
Finding the damaged spot, repairing the wire, and stopping there. Whatever chafed through the insulation is still there, and the repair will fail again in the same place — usually sooner, because the repair is slightly thicker than the original. Fix the cause: re-route the wire, add a grommet, pad the edge.
