Hard Water Marks on Glass
If the marks survive an acid soak, they are not deposit — the glass is etched. How to tell which you have before spending anything, and what each one needs.

Test before you buy anything. Put an acid gel on a small patch, leave it the full stated time, and rinse. If the glass goes clear, you have mineral deposit and it is solvable. If nothing changes, the glass is etched — the marks are pits in the surface, not something sitting on it, and no cleaner will ever remove them.
That ten-minute test is the whole decision, and most of what is sold for this problem is bought without making it.

The problem, as it appears
A shower screen that looks permanently dirty. Cleaned, it is clear while wet and cloudy again the moment it dries. Cleaned harder, it is exactly the same, and now there is a faint scratch pattern where the effort went in.
Why the obvious fix disappoints
Two different problems wear the same appearance.
Mineral deposit is calcium and magnesium left behind when hard water evaporates. It sits on the glass. It dissolves in acid.
Etching is damage to the glass itself. Repeated wetting with hard water leaves an alkaline residue, and over years that slowly attacks the silica surface, leaving microscopic pits that scatter light. There is nothing on the surface to remove.
The standard response — a stronger cleaner and more pressure — does nothing for etching and adds scratches, which look like more etching. So the harder the problem is attacked, the worse it looks, and the more convinced people become that they simply have not found the right product.

What actually matters
1. Which of the two you have
Test on a small patch, low down, where a mistake will not be conspicuous. Acid gel, full dwell time, rinse, dry, look.
Clear: deposit. Unchanged: etching. There is no third answer, and knowing which one you are dealing with determines everything else.
2. Dwell time, if it is deposit
Glass is vertical, so a liquid runs off and achieves nothing. A gel stays put, which is the only reason gels exist for this job.
Repeat rather than escalate. Two applications of the same gel beat one application of something harsher.
3. Never abrasion
Not the scouring side of a sponge, not a cream cleaner, not a blade. Scratched glass is indistinguishable from etched glass at a glance, and it is equally permanent.
If an acid with proper dwell time did not shift it, force is not the missing ingredient — the answer is that it was never deposit.
The options, and who each suits
Acid gel, for deposit
The correct tool. Full dwell time, rinse thoroughly, repeat if the deposit is thick.
Limescale remover gel
Stays on vertical glass long enough to work, which a liquid does not. Keep it off natural stone — acid etches marble and limestone permanently.

Citric acid solution, for the fittings around it
The shower head, the tap and the tray hardware, which are usually as scaled as the glass and easier to deal with because they can be soaked.
Citric acid descaler
For the head and the fittings, which can be immersed. Full immersion overnight beats a series of short soaks.

A cloth that lifts rather than scours
After the acid has worked, softened deposit should wipe away. If it needs pressure, the dwell time was short.

A squeegee, which is the actual answer
Preventative, and the only thing here that changes the trajectory. Water that is removed before it evaporates leaves nothing behind — no deposit, and in time no etching either.
Shower squeegee
Thirty seconds after each shower. This is the item that stops the problem rather than treating it, and it is the cheapest thing on the page.

The mistake to avoid
Escalating instead of testing. The progression from cleaner to stronger cleaner to abrasive to blade is entirely predictable, and if the marks are etching every step of it makes the screen worse while feeling like progress.
The second mistake, in a rented flat, is treating badly etched glass as a cleaning failure. It is not recoverable by cleaning, it happened over years, and attacking it with abrasives converts a defect you inherited into damage you caused. Report it.
