The problem, as it appears

Mechanical keyboards are described with a vocabulary that means nothing until you have felt it — linear, tactile, clicky, actuation force, bottom-out. Every recommendation contradicts another, and the only way to find out has traditionally been to buy a board.

That is a substantial commitment to a preference you cannot evaluate in advance, which is exactly the gap a tester fills.

Why online recommendations disappoint

Because this is a preference question presented as a technical one. Actuation force is a number, and whether 45 grams feels light or heavy to you is not derivable from it. The same switch attracts enthusiastic and dismissive descriptions from people who are both describing their experience accurately.

Gaming recommendations are the least reliable part. Linear switches are commonly preferred for rapid repeated presses, and plenty of people compete on tactile ones. The difference is smaller than the discussion implies.

What actually matters

Which of the three families you prefer. Linear moves smoothly through its travel. Tactile has a bump you can feel at the actuation point. Clicky adds a sound to that bump. This is the question a tester answers well, and it is the one that matters most.

Weight, second. Within a family, spring weight varies, and heavier reduces accidental presses from resting fingers while adding fatigue over long sessions.

That the tester is not the keyboard. A bare tester with no case sounds and feels quite different from the same switch in a finished board. Plate material, case rigidity and internal foam all change it, and keycaps change it again.

Whether the board is hot-swap. If it is, switches can be changed later without soldering, and the decision stops being permanent — which reduces how much any of this matters.

The mistake to avoid

Judging sound from a tester. A bare plastic tester block has none of the acoustic properties of a keyboard — no case cavity, no plate, no foam — and switches that sound sharp on a tester frequently sound quite different installed. Feel transfers reasonably; sound does not transfer at all.

The second mistake is treating this as a performance decision. Switch choice is a comfort and preference matter, and the differences that get discussed at length have very little bearing on how anyone actually plays. Buy the one that feels pleasant to type on for hours, because that is the thing you will notice every day.
