There is one specification on this box that matters and everything else is a preference. Eight mil, with nine at the fingertips, is what separates a glove that lasts an oil change from one that splits on the first bracket edge.

The problem it addresses

The reason people work bare-handed is not that they prefer it. It is that the gloves in the drawer are medical examination gloves, they tear within minutes of touching anything with an edge, and putting on a fresh pair for the fourth time stops feeling worth it.

Why the thickness number is the review

A mil is a thousandth of an inch. A medical examination glove runs about 3 to 5 mil, because its job is a barrier against fluids while preserving the dexterity to feel a pulse.

A garage glove has a different job. It has to survive being dragged past the edge of a bracket, a jubilee clip, a burr on a stamped panel — while resisting oil rather than blood. At 8 mil with 9 mil fingertips these are roughly double a medical glove, and the fingertip reinforcement is placed where the tearing actually starts.

Where it stops being the right tool

Thickness cuts both ways

For an oil change, a suspension job, anything greasy and mechanical, 8 mil is right. For tracing a wire in a loom, seating a small connector, or handling M.2 screws, it is too much glove and a thinner one is the correct choice.

Owning both is the sensible answer, and it is cheap to do.

It is a fluid barrier, not armour

There is no cut or abrasion rating here and there should not be — that is a different product. A sharp edge will go through 8 mil of nitrile as readily as through 4. Solvents are a limit, not an exception

Nitrile is good against oils and greases. Who should buy it, and who should not

Buy them if you currently work bare-handed because gloves keep tearing. That is the exact problem this thickness solves, and it converts a glove from something that fails mid-job into something you forget you are wearing.

Skip them if the work is fine and clean, where a thinner glove is better and cheaper. And skip them for anything sharp or heavy, where disposable nitrile is not the category at all.
