Two jump starters that answer the same question differently. The Fanttik Potent T10 publishes almost double the internal capacity and a larger engine rating; the NOCO GB40 publishes an ingress rating and a decade of people using them in the rain.

Both of those are real. Which one decides it depends on a fact about you rather than about the units: whether your car is more likely to die on a driveway or somewhere unpleasant.

What the capacity gap actually buys

A jump start draws enormous current for a very short time. Both units have far more than one start's worth of energy. What capacity changes is how many attempts you get, and how much is left after the unit has sat in a cold boot for four months — which is the way these actually fail. Nobody is stranded because their jump starter delivered 1000A instead of 1800A. They are stranded because it was flat.

On that measure the T10 has a genuine margin, and the PD 30W output with a retractable cable makes it plausible as the thing you already carry rather than a single-purpose object that lives under the boot floor and is forgotten. That is a real argument, and it is the strongest one for it.

What the ingress rating buys

The GB40 publishes IP65. The T10's ingress rating could not be corroborated from either the manufacturer listing or the retailer, which means unknown, not bad — but unknown is what you have to decide with.

It matters more than it looks. A jump start is an outdoor job in the conditions that caused it: rain, sleet, a wet supermarket car park, the unit resting on the ground or on a wet wing while you find the terminals. This is one of the few consumer products where the environmental rating describes the normal use case rather than an edge case.

The peak-amp number is the one to ignore

1800A against 1000A looks decisive and is the weakest figure on the page.

There is no enforced standard for measuring peak amps, the figure describes an instantaneous maximum under undisclosed conditions, and each manufacturer runs its own test. Sustained current under load is what turns an engine and neither publishes it. The engine-size guidance is the more honest proxy. 7.0 litres against 6.0 is a manufacturer committing to an outcome, and it is a real if modest gap.

What neither of them fixes

A jump starter is a fallback, and buying one is often the second-best response to the actual problem. If a battery goes flat while the car is parked, something is draining it or the battery is finished — covered in car electrical problems, in the order to check them.

Questions people actually ask

Does 1800A really start a bigger engine than 1000A?
Peak amps are the least useful published figure on either box. There is no enforced standard for measuring them, the number describes an instant rather than the sustained current that actually turns an engine, and both brands are quoting their own test. The stated engine guidance — 7.0 litres against 6.0 — is a more meaningful comparison because it is the manufacturer committing to an outcome rather than a measurement.
Is the bigger battery just for charging a phone?
Not only. Capacity determines how many attempts you get and how much charge survives months in a cold boot between checks, which is the failure that strands people — a jump starter that has self-discharged is worse than no jump starter, because you stopped carrying cables. The phone charging is a genuine secondary use and the reason the T10 has a retractable cable at all.
Why does an IP rating matter for something kept in a car?
Because it is used outdoors in the weather it failed in. A jump start happens in rain, sleet or a wet car park, with the unit sitting on the ground or balanced on a wing. The GB40 publishes IP65; no equivalent figure for the T10 could be corroborated, which means unknown rather than poor.
Can I keep either one in the car all winter?
Both state an operating range, and both lose charge faster when cold. The practical answer for either is the same: charge it on a fixed date twice a year rather than when you remember, because the day you need it is the day you find out. Neither brand's figure changes that habit.
