What Earns Space in an EV Boot
No spare wheel, a small frunk, and a cable that has to live somewhere. What genuinely earns its place, and what people carry because the last car had it.

Two structural facts decide this: there is usually no spare wheel, and the thing most likely to strand you is a flat 12 V battery.
So the kit is a puncture answer that does not need a wheel, and a jump pack — which sounds wrong in an electric car and is exactly right. Almost everything else is inherited from the last car and can come out.

The problem, as it appears
The boot is smaller than the brochure implied once the charging cable is in it, there is no spare wheel under the floor, and the kit that lived in the last car has been transferred wholesale without anyone asking whether it still applies.
Some of it does not. One important item is missing.
Why the obvious approach disappoints
The obvious approach is to carry what you always carried. It disappoints in both directions.
Jump leads are the clearest example. They are in most people's boot, and in an EV they are close to useless: you cannot start the car from another vehicle the way the ritual assumes, and using the EV to start someone else's car is something manufacturers warn against explicitly. They are weight.
And the thing people leave out is the jump pack, on the reasoning that a car with a huge battery cannot need one. It can, because the battery that fails is the small 12 V one — the failure described in the 12 V battery in an electric car.
The other inherited assumption is the fuel can. There is no equivalent. A portable charger adds so little range in a roadside timeframe that running out is a recovery call, not a jerrycan situation.

What actually matters
1. A puncture answer, because there is no spare
The most likely thing to stop the journey, and the one with no mechanical fallback. A plug kit plus a way to reinflate is the combination that turns a tread-area puncture into a delay rather than a recovery.
Be honest about the limits: tread area only, within size limits, and a get-home measure rather than a repair. A sidewall is a recovery call whatever you carry.

2. A jump pack, which is not the counterintuitive item it seems
Same tool, same 12 V system, same job. Use the manufacturer's designated jump points, which on many EVs are terminals in the engine bay rather than the battery itself — and find out where they are before you need them.

3. A way to keep a phone alive
The phone is how recovery gets arranged and how a charging network gets found. Charging it from a car whose 12 V you are trying to protect is the wrong direction.

4. Warning equipment, according to where you drive
Unrelated to how the car is powered, and genuinely variable by country. If you drive abroad, check what each country you pass through requires rather than assuming your home rules travel with you.

The options, and who each suits
The charging cable — only if you charge away from home
This is the one people get wrong. If the cable goes from boot to home socket and back every evening, it is occupying luggage space to do a job a hook on a wall does better.
If you use untethered public posts, it lives in the boot and it wants a bag so it does not shed grit over everything else.

What to take out
- Jump leads. Replaced entirely by a jump pack, for the reasons above.
- A fuel can, or its mental equivalent. There isn't one.
- A second charging cable, unless you have specifically found a need for it.
- The tin of oil and the coolant top-up from the last car. Check the handbook for what your car actually uses; on many EVs the answer is far less than you are used to carrying.
The four-in-one question
Boot space is the scarce thing on this page, so the obvious answer is a tool that claims to be four tools. Vacuum, blower, extractor and inflator in one body is a real product category now, and the honest question is not whether it works — it is whether it replaces four objects or does four jobs badly enough that you keep the originals anyway.
That question cannot be answered from a specification sheet, which is why there are no figures here. No suction, pressure or runtime number for this unit could be corroborated across the manufacturer's own listing and a retailer, and this site does not print specifications it has not checked.

The mistake to avoid
Assuming the traction battery makes you self-sufficient. It makes the car quiet and it does not help with a puncture, a flat 12 V, a dead phone, or a road you have to stand beside in the dark.
The second mistake is discovering the jump points and the manual door release at the roadside. On many EVs the handbook lives on a screen that a flat 12 V will not turn on — which is a good argument for reading the relevant two pages today and, if you like belt and braces, keeping a copy on your phone.
